Twisted Sister's famous song "We're Not Gonna Take It" has been pegged as a violent song for the nature of its lyrics and the content of the video, but is the song itself truly violent? What about the metal genre as a whole?
Is Heavy Metal Violent in Nature?
Across the following pages one simple question will be answered, Does heavy metal music cause people to be violent? In the world of music, when one thinks of a possible genre to cause violence and to invoke violent thoughts, one would naturally think of heavy metal music. It is raw, loud, fast, and violent in sound. This audio backdrop would without thought present the basis for the violent nature of its fans. In sights and sounds of the concert life, one would quickly assume metalheads, with their black t-shirts, long hair, and devil horns formed with their fingers are satanic and violent. Their music is not, however, the source of this violence. As this compilation of research goes to prove, the psychological differences of a metalhead and a normal person prove that just listening to heavy metal music, across a wide range of personal differences, cannot cause a normal person to be violent or worse, suicidal. The stereotypes of pentagrams and devil horns might hold true, but music is, as always in nature, good and free of expressed violence.
